Meeting to Discuss the UN Global Compact Initiative in Bahrain

The UN Information Centre (UNIC) in Manama’s Director met Bahrain’s Minister of Industry & Commerce, HE Dr Hassan Fakhro on 15 February to discuss the UN Global Compact. The Director elaborated on the initiative and the need to advocate the same in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  The Minister strongly welcomed the UNIC’s initiative to launch a national campaign in order to implement the ten principles of Global Compact at the business and corporate levels, both in the public and private sectors.  In this regard, UNIC would prepare a road map outlining the background and strategy on how Global Compact can be successfully implemented in the Kingdom.

Discussions were also underway on the possibility of organizing an official ceremony/workshop under the ministry’s patronage and with the UNIC and UN Country Team’s support, to formally launch the initiative by bringing together key players and stakeholders from the corporate community from the national, regional and international arenas.  The Minister further highlighted the important steps undertaken by the Kingdom in order to support economic growth and strategies to facilitate investment projects.  The meeting was covered by the Daily Tribune and Akbhar Al Khaleej newspapers.
